Stars Shine at the 2024 K-Expo: Recognizing Excellence in K-Content



The 6th Newsis Hallyu Expo, known as the 2024 K-Expo, brought together shining stars in the world of K-content at the Great Hall of the Chosun Palace in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul. The event, scheduled to commence at 3 PM on the August 22, celebrated the outstanding achievements of various actors and groups in the industry.

Kim Soo-hyun, acclaimed for his captivating portrayal in tvN's 'Queen of Tears', was awarded the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award for his ability to bring depth and emotion to his characters, captivating audiences and critics alike.

 


Go Min-si, known for her versatile roles in Netflix's 'Sweet Home' Season 1-3 (2020-2024), received the Seoul Mayor's Award for her compelling performances that showcased her range and talent as an actress.

 


Byun Yo-han and Kim Hye-yoon were recognized with the National Assembly Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee Chairman's Award for their captivating roles in Disney+'s 'Uncle Sam-sik' and tvN's 'Lovely Runner', respectively. Their ability to bring characters to life and engage viewers on screen earned them accolades and admiration.

 



Chae Jong-hyeop, alongside Kim Ji-yeon (Bona) of the group 'Cosmic Girls', received the Seoul Tourism Foundation CEO Award for their outstanding contributions to the industry. Chae Jong-hyeop's created the 'Hyunsama' craze in his charismatic performances in Japan's TBS's 'Eye Love You' and tvN's 'Serendipity Embrace' solidified his position as a rising star in the world of K-dramas. Kim Ji-yeon gave a passionate performance as a victim of school violence in Tving's 'Pyramid Game'. The show received attention from foreign media, with the BBC in the UK praising it, saying, "Pyramid Game is the new 'squid game'".

 





The event also honored other talented individuals and groups, such as the group 'Highkey', Modehouse CEO Jeong Byeong-gi, and 'Big Ocean', for their exceptional work and impact on the K-content landscape.

The theme of this year's Newsis Hallyu Expo, 'REACT K-WAVE', highlighted the importance of Seoul's advancement as a tourism megacity and explored future development directions. The event featured open discussions on 'The possibility of a quantum jump in Hallyu as seen through the K-food craze', moderated by big data expert Song Gil-young, with participation from industry experts.

The Newsis Hallyu Expo, established in 2019, aims to enhance the sustainability of Hallyu and the competitiveness of the cultural industry. It serves as a platform to recognize and commend individuals and organizations that have contributed to the growth and promotion of K-culture.

The event, sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Seoul Metropolitan Council, the Korea Creative Content Agency, and the Seoul Tourism Foundation, can be viewed live on the Newsis YouTube channel on August 22 at 3pm KST.

The 2024 K-Expo not only celebrated the achievements of talented individuals but also highlighted the continuous evolution and global impact of K-content in the entertainment industry.
