Baek Seo Hoo: The Rising Star of "Miss Night and Day"

Baek Seo-hoo, a rising actor known for his role in the JTBC drama "Miss Night and Day" considers the series a turning point in his career. After four years of honing his craft, the drama finally brought him into the public eye, establishing him as a promising talent. For Baek Seo-hoo, the role of Go Won, a top idol turned social service worker, was more than just a character; it was a chance to showcase his versatility and dedication to the art of acting.

"If I had been sinking under the surface, I feel like I am trying to run out through 'Miss Night and Day," Baek Seo-hoo shared during an interview with The Fact. He dedicated himself to portraying Go Won authentically, undergoing a significant weight loss to embody the idol persona. He also immersed himself in understanding the mannerisms and emotions of top singers like G-Dragon, studying their gestures and speech patterns to create a believable portrayal.

"The director told me that Go Won is like G-Dragon. So I searched for videos of G-Dragon and other senior singers and observed their gestures and speech a lot. I added my own color to create Go Won," Baek Seo-hoo explained.

Beyond the physical transformation, Baek Seo-hoo delved deep into Go Won's complex emotions and motivations. He sought to understand the character's inner struggles and the nuances of his evolving relationship with Lim Soon, played by Lee Jung-eun.

"Go Won is a person who has a pain that others don't know about, so he must have known Im Jin's secret and sympathized with her pain," Baek Seo-hoo shared. "Go Won would have understood Mi Jin's feelings and wouldn't have made a difference in the way he treated her even if her appearance changed."

Baek Seo-hoo credits Lee Jung-eun for her mentorship and guidance, which helped him portray the evolving relationship between Go Won and Lim Soon/Lim Mi-jin authentically. "Lee Jung-eun helped me a lot with my acting. She told me to speak informally, saying, 'You have to think of me as a friend so that your acting comes out naturally.' Thanks to that, I naturally call her 'noona.' In reality, I was able to feel Go Won's feelings for Lim Soon, which helped me a lot in my acting."

The positive response to Baek Seo-hoo's performance has been overwhelming. Viewers were drawn to the dynamic between Go Won and Im Soon/Im Mi-jin, even over the main romantic storyline. This success has boosted Baek Seo-hoo's recognition and contributed to the drama's high viewership ratings.

"I couldn't believe it because it was the first time I received such good responses. I think the reactions came because Lim Soon and Go Won's 'chemistry' was good and people liked that relationship," Baek Seo-hoo expressed his gratitude to the viewers.

Looking ahead, Baek Seo-hoo is eager to explore more human-centric roles. He hopes to portray characters that delve into complex emotions and personal struggles, citing writer Noh Hee-kyung's works as inspiration.

"I want to appear in a work like writer Noh Hee-kyung's where each character is well-visible and has a human touch," Baek Seo-hoo shared. "I also want to act as a character with a lot of pain. I will put in a lot of effort to express that character, so I think I will grow even more in the process."

Baek Seo-hoo's dedication to his craft, coupled with his desire to explore diverse roles, suggests a promising future ahead. With "Miss Night and Day" as a springboard, Baek Seo-hoo is poised to make his mark on the Korean entertainment scene.
