A Dream Role for Kim Seon Ho

Kim Seon Ho, known for his charming role Kim Seon Ho Talks About His Role as Director Choe in "The Tyrants, revealed that Director Choe is a character he's been longing to portray.  The actor was drawn to the character's unique position - isolated and lonely, a stark contrast to many of his previous roles.  This challenge, he says, is what truly enticed him to take on the role.

Q: What made you decide to star in "The Tyrant"? What did you think when you first read the script?

A: First of all, the script was incredibly fun. In particular, Director Choe was the kind of role that I've dreamt of playing for a long time. Unlike the majority of the characters I've played, who were light-hearted and cheerful, Director Choe is lonely and isolated, so I really wanted to see if I could take on this challenge.

A Masterclass in Collaboration

Q: How did you find working with director Park Hoonjung again after "The Child"?

A: I have immense respect for director Park. He has always been a great friend and he feels like an older brother to me. I was excited to work with him again because I was sure that I would learn a lot from him, especially in terms of portraying my character with nuance and clarity. As expected, I felt so happy and loved working on this series with him.

Unveiling Director Choe's Inner World

Q: Director Choe is completely different from the roles that you have played so far. What did you want to portray with this character, and did you talk to director Park about your vision for the character at all?

A: I didn't approach this character particularly differently from any of my other roles. But because it was a new type of character, I had many conversations with the director about the character's inner world and his psyche. In particular, I put a lot of thought into how much of his emotions he would outwardly express in a particular situation. Too much emotion would undermine the seriousness of the character and the scene, while too little would lack conviction. It was part of the process of developing and shaping my character with more clarity. Considering he's a lonely, isolated character, I had to make very detailed decisions about the range of emotions being expressed in his lines when he makes a certain choice.

A: It is the ultimate goal - one that he considers worth risking his life for, all in the name of helping his country.  But what sacrifices is he willing to make?  What lengths will he go to achieve his goals?  These questions, and many more, are sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
