The Casting Shuffle Behind "Queen Of Tears"

 

South Korean television has seen numerous dramas that have not only captivated local audiences but have also gained international acclaim. One such recent example is the hit TVN weekend drama "Queen of Tears". However, what many might not know is that the leading lady of this popular series, Kim Ji Won, wasn't the original choice for the role.

The drama, penned by renowned screenwriter Park Ji Eun, known for her work on "Crash Landing on You", "The Legend of the Blue Sea", and "My Love from the Star", initially had different casting plans. In the early stages of development, Park Ji Eun considered casting K-pop sensation IU for the pivotal role of Hong Hae In. This potential collaboration would have marked IU's second venture into K-drama with Park Ji Eun, following their successful partnership on "The Producers"

IU, however, ultimately declined the role due to prior commitments. Edam Entertainment, IU's agency, confirmed her respect for the offer but cited scheduling conflicts as the reason for her decision. It was around this time that media reports first emerged, stating that Kim Hyun Soo and IU were offered to star in "Queen of Tears".

While IU eventually declined the offer, Kim Hyun Soo’s agency revealed that they were in discussion and had not received the scripts.

There were also rumors that Park Eun Bin was offered the lead role.

Park Eun Bin and Kim Soo Hyun have worked together in the 2013 film "Secretly, Greatly." In the film, Kim Soo Hyun plays a North Korean spy who has a crush on Park Eun Bin's character. They have also appeared together in a commercial.

However, specific details about Park Eun Bin's potential involvement in "Queen of Tears" have not been widely reported.

Following IU's decline and Park Eun Bin's rumored casting, Park Ji Eun turned to actress Kim Ji Won to take on the challenging role of Hong Hae In.

Kim Ji Won's portrayal of the cold and formidable chaebol heiress has been hailed by viewers and critics alike, contributing significantly to the show's skyrocketing popularity.

Her compelling performance has solidified her status as the undisputed star of the series, proving that sometimes, initial casting changes can lead to unexpected success!
